Sussex Man Shoots Up Heroin, Passes Out in Pewaukee Parking Lot

Suspect passed out behind the wheel of a closed strip mall and is unable to explain how he got there.

A 21-year-old Sussex man is facing charges after he was found passed out in his Jaguar in a Pewaukee strip mall parking lot after shooting up heroin.

Kevin P. O’Brien was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Monday with one count of possession of narcotic drugs, one count of possession of THC – the active ingredient in marijuana – one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of carrying a concealed weapon. If convicted, he faces up to nearly five years in prison and $21,500 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 12:30 a.m. Saturday, a Pewaukee police officer was on patrol in the 600 block of Ryan Street when he spotted a Jaguar parked across three parking spaces in a diagonal fashion with its lights on. He saw a man slumped over the steering wheel of the car and went over to see if there was a medical emergency.

The officer knocked on the window, but O’Brien didn’t immediately respond. He eventually lifted his head up and appeared confused or intoxicated.

O’Brien eventually got the car door open with help from the officer and got out of the car. When asked why he was in the parking lot, O’Brien said he was tired and didn’t know why he was there.

The officer patted O’Brien down and found a baggie of marijuana in his pocket. He then searched O’Brien’s car where he found syringes, heroin cookers, bags with heroin residue inside and a buck knife hidden under a seat.

He also noticed O’Brien had fresh track marks on his arms. O’Brien said he had just shot up heroin after being clean for one year.

He’s currently free on a $2,000 signature bond while awaiting trial.
