Obama the man who wanted to close GITMO because of civil rights violations on behalf of the Bush debacle.. Give all its residents civilian trials in the U.S with all the rights and liberties afforded you and me under the Constitution, resulting in the acquittal or release of most, on any number of civil rights violations, especially due process. Is a big 180 from “I gave the order” to eliminate the accused Al Queda leader. What about the Osama’s rights? Just another do anything; say anything to get elected Obama.

Romney states the rich will not pay less than the same share under his 5 point plan. But he'll keep the Bush tax cuts, then cut taxes across the board? So that is RELATIONALLY true. But the amount of tax the top 1% would pay could be significantly less than now, much more of a cash payment break than middle class and working people.

His voice is very stressed, he's very annoyed (he just talked about Obama's ability to speak). He's not adjusting his conversation but sticking to memorized talking points. What would he do if North Korea invaded South Korea and threatened to launch missiles? Or if China threatened to invade Taiwan?

This is not the temperament that I would want leading our country.

Very thing you say is a lie but even if somewhat true have a look around at our global economy and ask yourself, what personal experience does Obama bring?

Comment_arrow

Bren

9:11 pm on Tuesday, October 16, 2012

I don't think Obama's experience includes investing in Chinese companies located on subsidized government land, a situation that creates some of the very unfair trade practices that Romney claims to be against and will crack down upon. Is that after he harvests as much profit as possible? I find Romney's business behavior unpalatable.

Almost everyone with a diversified portfolio and or a 401(k) plan has money invested in Chinese manufactuing. This includes the looney left, our REAL weapons of mass destruction.

Comment_arrow

Bren

5:11 pm on Wednesday, October 17, 2012

The issue isn't, "what's in your portfolio," so much as, am I misrepresenting my position on Chinese business practices by profiting from them at the same time I am complaining about them on the national stage? The only issue I have with globalization is that it hasn't been done in a way that really lifts people up. It's being enacted by corporations that are by mission created to make profit. The end result is the exploitation (abuse) of Third World countries and populations, and now here in the U.S. as well.

And honestly, how many of us here on Patch have owned a company and/or subsidiary that bought U.S. factories, closed them, then handed the work over to China? (Asimco) I haven't and I find it distasteful on several levels, not the least of which is that the two U.S. factories in question regarding Asimco were in Michigan, a state supposedly close to Romney's heart and one that desperately needs jobs.

I try to keep my investments green/domestic since you ask. Again, would there be an issue if Chinese workers were making American wages? Of course, the jobs weren't shipped overseas to pay the same wages so it's not a productive question.

Comment_arrow

Craig

9:12 pm on Wednesday, October 17, 2012

Bren: Thanks for the reply. Obviously it would be too personal to ask how you know that you manage to keep your investments green and domestic.
I can tell you this: Most 401(k) plans do not offer that option, very few mutual funds offer either option as well. I read a study some time ago where people were invested in big tobacco and had no knowledge of it.
I may have come off as a smart ass (which I don't deny), but seriously you can not know unless you read that little booklet cover to cover.

More on Global-Tech: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/11/mitt-romney-outsourcing_n_1666930.html

Romney was sole shareholder, director, President and CEO of Brookside: On April 17, 1998, Brookside Capital Partners Fund, a Bain Capital affiliate, filed a report with the Securities and Exchange Commission noting that it had acquired 6.13 percent of Hong Kong-based Global-Tech Appliances, which manufactured household appliances in a production facility in the industrial city of Dongguan, China. That August, according to another SEC filing, Brookside upped its interest in Global-Tech to 10.3 percent. Both SEC filings identified Romney as the person in control of this investment: "Mr. W. Mitt Romney is the sole shareholder, sole director, President and Chief Executive Officer of Brookside Inc. and thus is the controlling person of Brookside Inc." Each of these documents was signed by Domenic Ferrante, a managing director of Brookside and Bain." (Ibid).

If all Walker needs is the Koch's and he's their puppet, as you and your side constantly claims, then why are you guys constantly complaining about him doing campaign fundraising all over the country? After all, he has the Koch's - he doesn't need to pander for a few thousand a plate or $30k-50k like Obama does, right?

Sounds like we're on then - I'm willing to do $100, but we'll call it $50 as this is a friendly wager after all, presented in persona to the winner not more than 3 weeks after the results from the recall election are verified at a location of your choosing. If a recall is not triggered for whatever reason, and the John Doe fails to indict Walker by Nov 1, 2012, then Hoffa will be declared the winner by default and the same satisfaction requirements will then apply. If Walker is indicted before Nov 1, then an eventual judgment by the trial court upholding a conviction of any kind against Walker, excluding any appellate proceedings, will secure a default in favor of Mr. Schmitz and again the same satisfaction requirements will then apply.

And once again, Obama winds up with nearly 4 minutes of additional talking time over Romney. Not to the mention the supposed 'fact-check' that Crowley did on Romney during the debate, which wasn't even accurate, and didn't once fact check Obama. The liberal MSM bias was definitely on full display tonight to anyone who is being honest with themselves.

And despite having to fight not only Obama 2.0, but the liberal MSM bias, Romney still managed to be victorious on substance and style!

However, there are a lot of kool-aide drinkers out there, as clearly indicated by the comments made by Obama supporters on this board.

Three debates in the books, and we still haven't heard the Obama/Biden plan for growing the economy and balancing the budget - isn't that omission the most telling fact in and of itself?

Instead of criticizing the math of Romney's plan with false assumptions, speculations, conjectures, etc, perhaps Obama should focus on shoring up the math of his own plan, because as Romney correctly stated tonight, and Obama didn't deny, that even with Obama's tax increases, four more years of Obama would bring another $4-5T of additional debt.

It's time for real Hope and Change!

Over the three debates thus far, Dems are up by about 12 minutes (5 minutes in the first debate, 3 minutes in the VP debate, and 4 minutes in this debate) of additional talking time over Romney/Ryan.

Just imagine how much more severe the time disparity would be if Romney wasn't fighting for every second of talking time he did get during these debates.

Given that we've all been exposed to the incumbent over the course of their previous term (in this case nearly 4 years), if anything, shouldn't these debates allot slightly more time in favor of the challenger if we can't achieve equal time?

Why isn't anyone calling out the debate hosts/moderators/commission for this very real and clear BIAS?

I sure wish that Gary Johnson, with his low-key yet blunt spoken style and common sense substance, could have been in both debates, and Judge Jim Gray in the VP fest. Even when the Libertarian Party finally nominates a ticket that is ready and able to assume the White House and get things done, we still get shut out of the debates because we can't get enough poll numbers or raise enough funds. How can you do that, unless you get into these debates? And we are on the ballot in at least 48 states, so we could theoretically win the Electoral College vote based on the number of states we are on the ballot.

@Keith R. Deschler The Johnson campaign is suing the debate commision on the grounds that it is breaking its tax exempt charter with the IRS which prohibits that organization from thwarting any political party from participating in the debates. We'll see how that turns out.

Who's the one that believes in the big bad evil Koch boogey-men?

Sound good?

people dropping out of the work place may have been a factor in the decline of the unemployment rate earlier this year but not so with this most recent drop. The revised job numbers were increased by 86,000 for July and August in addition to the 114,000 jobs added in Sep. This is the reason for the drop.

Only those on the right root for bad economic conditions because it helps with their agenda of replacing our President even if it is at the expense of the American people.

It would be wise to rest your case because it is tired and old. According to your logic, there is no such thing as a standardized measurement for unemployment. I would guess that you believed in the accuracy of the posted rate when it was plus 10% 3 years ago. Like it or not the rate is a comparative measure month to month. Whether or not the 7.8% figure is accurate according to your standards, you can't deny that it has trended downward.

@John Feia The Economist, a left-leaning British publication, reported that 87% of the new American jobs in the past 6 months were in fact part time. Numbers are numbers, but what is behind those numbers tells us that the economy is actually slowing down. This is due to the private sector and the consumer, not the government.

The Economist left leaning? It is neither:

" Tom Standage, Digital Editor at The Economist

The Economist is not inherently left-wing or right-wing; its political philosophy is rooted in 19th-century Classical Liberalism of the John Stuart Mill variety. Essentially we are fans of Free Markets (The Economist was founded to oppose the Corn Laws) and individual choice. So we favour, for example, a small state and the abolition of agricultural subsidies (right-wing fiscally liberal positions); but we also support gay marriage and the legalisation of drugs (left-wing socially liberal positions)."

@John Feia You just can't admit that the economy is on life support, can you? Why did the Fed introduce QE3 if everything was so wonderful? Why has legal immigration been greater each month than the new jobs being produced? Why has our trade deficits been continually terrible each month? We have been just limping along.
The only conceivable way we can get out of this morass is if the private sector gave decent enough raises to their employees to increase demand. This is unlikely to happen as long as unemployment remains high. That is the true dilemna that we are facing.

Comment_arrow

John Feia

@ MM
I don't see where I said that the economy is where it should be but do claim that it is headed in the right direction. There are both negative and positive indicators at play here. You cite some negatives but there are positives. The stock market has basically doubled under the President, the housing market is a its highest since '08, jobs are being created and yes the unemployment rate is trending downward. these are just a few of the positives. it seems like you are the one who refuses to want to recognize any positive indicators for whatever reason. i am a little curious about where you get your legal immigration figures though since the cap on annual legal immigration is 675,000 which is less the the amount of jobs created last year.
http://immigrationroad.com/visa-bulletin/immigrant-visa-annual-limit-and-cap.php

Comment_arrow

Michael McClusky

5:50 pm on Wednesday, October 17, 2012

@John Feia The legal immigration numbers I picked up from CNBC. As for the rest that you said: two major reasons why the stock market went through the roof were 1) the Fed has repeatedly inflated our currency in order to increase the value of the stocks. Note: our commodity prices rose, too. 2) The private sector put the screws to their employees once unemployment went up. This was reported extensively by the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. This resulted in the medium household income to drop over 4000$ in the last three years. This helped to cripple demand in our country, which is 70% of our economy.
Economists say that low-paying jobs have minimal positive affect on the economy. There is no spending power. The only way we can sustain growth is if the private sector starts caring about their employees and communities again. Washington is certainly not the center of economic activity in this country. The ball is in the private sector's court, not the politicians.

It is President Obama and he should be addressed that way.

I believe that this is part of an eroding culture that allows people to place their own initiatives ahead of respecting others. Every citizen should show the President of the United States respect. Last night Mitt Romney did not.

The nation will be better off if we re-elect Obama. Clearly he has a vision for our future that includes everyone. Whereas Romney and Ryan care not for the majority, for the many: they are focused upon the few: how they can build up their stockpiles of rapaciously gained profits. Sending jobs off-shore; eliminating jobs that support families and trickle-down economics is what Romney is all about, We know that Trickle down economics never worked. Romney's continuing to advocate a losing proposition just shows that every time he opens his mouth it is to drop a lie - like his partner Pinocchio Ryan. We cannot let these immoral plutocrats and Randians do any more damage to the nation. We need to re-elect Obama and tell the Republicans to tear up the Pledge and start participating in the re-birth and growth of America. With Romney Ryan we get war, disaster, and no jobs. With Obama we get peace, protection for women, protection for the environment, a strong focus upon education and the creation of jobs, plus: the inclusion of all.

ACTIONS speak louder than words.

Clearly, the speech in the rose garden was never meant to be a declaration that the events in Libya amounted to a terrorist attack, otherwise Obama would have been consistent in all those other venues.

This review is from: Avery Economy Binder with 1-Inch Round Ring, Black, 1 Binder (3301) (Office Product)
On CNN, some guy named "Mitt" said that binders were full of women. Being lonely and single I bought several of these binders and had them shipped overnight. While they are quality binders, I was dismayed to find no women in any of the dozen binders I ordered. I will be returning them.
