Runaway Sussex Bank Robber Still at Large
The man who robbed Sussex’s associated bank in July is still on the loose, so is there a connection with the Menomonee Falls robbery?
Detective Steve Pederson says he has faith the man behind the crime will be taken into custody, but refused to comment further.
“Detectives are following up on leads, but we’re really not going to say too much else about that,” Pederson said. “The capture rate in finding those responsible for bank robberies – we’re generally pretty successful.”
Pederson’s update comes on the heels of an armed bank robbery in Menomonee Falls on Friday where two masked black men made off with an undisclosed amount of money. They are also still at large.
The Associated Bank robbery in Sussex happened at about 8 a.m. — an hour before the bank at Main Street and Silver Spring Drive opened. The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s who as about 5 feet 4 inches tall with a beard, and wearing all black clothing, according to the report.
The suspect, who was also wearing a black mask over his face, was carrying a knife and a handgun, the report said.
Employees who were there at the time stayed in a vault in the back of the room. The suspect fled on foot, but dropped the knife near the vault before he left the bank, the report said.
This isn’t the first time Sussex’s Associated Bank has been targeted. Two local men were recently sentenced for attempting to rob the bank in March.
In addition, on Thursday, police responded to an armed robbery at Petro Mart in Menomonee Falls, just a few blocks away from PNC Bank. Waters said there's no indication that there's any connection between the PNC Bank robbery and Thursday's robbery.
The suspects from all three robberies are still at large.
