Robotics Team Creates Senior Solutions

Team competes in regional "Senior Solutions" contest in Watertown.

The Templeton Middle School Junior Robotics team finished its successful season Nov. 10 with a strong showing at regional competition in Watertown.

This year’s competition was themed “Senior Solutions” in which students created and programmed robots to complete challenges on a “Senior Solutions” board.

In the competition, the students attempted to solve problems that older people face. For example, the Templeton Blue Team made cutting board with a special fixture to help people stricken with osteoarthritis. The fixture helps make uniform cuts with a kitchen knife.

The Templeton White Team create a unique application for a touchscreen device that helps people stricken with Alzheimer’s disease. The device helps them remember to complete daily tasks.

"Junior Robotics is an after school program that challenges students to work cooperatively to develop engineering solutions to problems that affect everyday lives," the district said in a statement.

Templeton applied engineering and technology teacher Shannon Flaherty is the Junior Robotics advisor.
