Waukesha County officials on Wednesday celebrated the beginning of the construction for the new Health and Human Services building on the Moor Downs Golf Course with a groundbreaking ceremony.

The project, which originally was budgeted for $36.7 million, is coming in under budget so far, according to Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas.

Waukesha County Board Chairman Jim Dwyer, who is from Menomonee Falls, spoke during the ceremony about the extra 16 years of life the county was able to squeeze out of the 100-year-old building that currently houses the Department of Health and Human Services.

“We are just hanging on by a thread,” Dwyer said.
