The group of girls turned donated towels and blankets into beds for dogs and cats waiting for adoption.
For a group of animal-loving Sussex Girl Scouts, the pets waiting for adoption at the Waukesha County Humane Society needed some help.
Well, they needed some beds.
The troops, ranging between first and fourth-graders, noticed that most of the cats and dogs at the shelter slept on the cold concrete floor. With help from the Village of Sussex and former village president Tony Lapcinski, the girls collected the materials they needed to make a difference.
"The current Village board along with other volunteers have been collecting old blankets and comforters to make into beds for the dogs and cats who currently sleep on the concrete flooring at the shelter," Lapcinski said.
On Tuesday, troops 2692, 4341, 2877 and 4583 took the donated blankets and towels, gathered at Maple Avenue Elementary School and sewed the pets a massive pile comfy beds to sleep on.
