Obituary: William Berger

The Sussex resident passed away at 90-years-old.

 

December 19, 1921 - March 25, 2012

William A. "Bill" Berger of Sussex found peace on March 25 at 90-years-old.

Berger game here at 54-years-old in 1975 and bought the former Taylor Hotel in the Templeton Part of Sussex, according to the Sussex Sun. He turned it over to his five children and it was renamed the Olde Templeton Inn.

The building was was torn down in mid-September of 2007 after construction plans on the corner of Waukesha Avenue and Main Street claimed the land for new roadways. The business was well known for its fish frys and was quite popular among locals. 

Berger frequented Rumors Bar & Grill to watch the Bears play and also celebrated his 90th birthday there. In addition Berger was known for his support of the Sussex Lions Club, submitting large donations to their causes. 

The official obituary reads:

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty and son, Mike. Dear dad of Sue (fiance Bill Dolphin) Tingle, Steve (Denise) Berger, J Berger, Kathy (the late Dale) Koehler and John Berger. Proud grandpa of Ryan Tingle, Kari (Rick) Nelson, Michael (Kathy), Zach (Melissa), Jason (fiance Jamie), JJ (Katie), Chance and Barrie Berger and great-grandpa of Katie (Nate), Ricky, Rose, Cami, Ethan, Emmerson, Bradley, Brandon, Nathan, Kylie, Owen and Aodhan. Further survived by other relatives and friends.

A Time of Sharing will be held Saturday, March 31 at the Schmidt & Bartlet Funeral Home at 3 p.m. The family will casually receive relatives and friends from 1-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight are appreciated.

Bill was a proud Captain while flying for 34 years for United Airlines and he now has his wings.
