MAP: Top Spots to Get a Speeding Ticket in Sussex

Patch broke down the police reports and found key areas where Sussex police stakeout for unruly drivers. Check out the interactive map.

In the past two weeks, Sussex police have made more than 130 traffic stops usually resulting in a citation, and certain locations are pretty popular on the list.

All the major roads in Sussex seem to top the list, with specific intersections where police stakeout for speed-demons and unruly drivers. There are two intersections on Main Street, as well as two on Silver Spring Drive that see a lot of police action. In addition, the intersection near the Sussex Corporate Center is on the list often.

The top five areas listed are:

  • Main Street and Locust Street
  • Highway 164 and Lisbon Road
  • Main Street and Pewaukee Road
  • Silver Spring Drive and Hickory Drive
  • Silver Spring Drive and Sussex Road

Surprisingly enough, while some drivers are occasionally pulled over on Waukesha Avenue, it doesn’t happen as often as you would think.

Where do you see the most officers searching for speeders and unruly drivers in Sussex? Are you the victim of a stakeout at one of the locations we listed? Tell us in the comments.

Editor’s Note: Incidences that happened at intersections extremely close to each other were lumped together for the sake of this list.

I always see them in the parking lot of the Safety Building but still see people speed past there. They also sit on the west side of 164 when heading south towards Lisbon Rd but before you get to it.

If you can't go 25 where it's 25 dont drive on that road. I have a real problem with people tailgating me down main st. often times i pull over and let them pass. Mr/mrs tailgator isnt going to pay my ticket.

Right? I always see them here -- ALWAYS -- but it wasn't a top spot where people received tickets. Maybe it's too easy to see them and people just slow down.

@Andy

Yeah, I came by once, a long time ago when you were writing up something about the schoolboard elections. We didn't talk long.

that speed limit at 164 and should be 55. kinda lame how they expand roads to 4 lanes then drop the speed limit 10mph

did you ever notice that the winding road of JK from Hwy K to Ryan road is 55 mph....honestly I love to drive fast, but there is no way I would ever do 55 on that road...and 164 that could handle 55 is at 45 !!!...makes absolutely no sense to me...I have seen a lot of monitoring on Good Hope lately...

I don't understand that either. 55 is crazy, especially at the JK/Ryan intersection.

55 is fine. Just be an attentive driver and drive according to conditions. Last thing we need is more lowered speed limits.

That is all great news. They are now using Maple Ave. & Clover Dr. for a race track. All we are missing is a checkered flag.

We live on Clover, and I am very tired of speed at which drivers go through. Especially near the Waukesa Avenue end of the road. There are many small children in the area, and I dread what may happen.

Clover can get crazy during the summer. Friday and Saturday nights are the worst. Coming home after 2nd shift I've seen plenty of racing going on, and the cars are so loud. Apparently mufflers have become optional.

I always see them on Woodside Road on the subdivision road of Coldwater Creek. That is where they got be coming out of my subdivision going down the hill. I usually and pretty careful but the kids were just excited to be going to pick up there dog after being on vacation for 8 days. Be careful in this area and they are always up by the golf course too!

Just about everyone speeds, and the enforcement of said speed laws are beyond erratic. It's nothing but random revenue collection, and the police on the road only serve to scare drivers who then dangerously brake which could potentially cause accidents. Police in a free nation should stay at the police station until called.

Speed limits in Sussex are ridiculously low. 25 through commercial areas with wide streets and shoulders? 25 along farm fields on the south end of Maple? 45 on 164 after being improved? It's just stupid and annoying.

I know - that speed limit on 164 kills me every time. One of these days I'll be in the police reports for going 80 mph on 164, and I just won't tell any of you. Hah
