Man Flip-Flops on Sussex Ring Theft

Suspect thinks there will be no consequences after allegedly stealing his girlfriend's rings, pawning them, then getting them back.

A 36-year-old Milwaukee man is facing charges after he allegedly stole two rings from his girlfriend’s home in Sussex, but then got them back after she discovered the theft.

Manuel Rodriguez was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Monday with one count of theft. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Jan. 30, the victim contacted Waukesha County sheriff’s deputies after she noticed two rings were missing inside her home in the W24100 block of Main Street. She told deputies she suspected her boyfriend in the theft.

She confronted Rodriguez about the theft and he admitted to taking the rings and pawning them at a jewelry store on Mitchell Street. He then went to the store and got the rings back and gave them back to the victim.

A detective then contacted Rodriguez about the theft and he admitted to the theft saying “I did steal her rings, but I got them back and I do not believe there should be any report filed.”

He will make his initial appearance in court July 30.
