How Many Debates Between Barrett, Walker Still Up for Debate
Gov. Scott Walker accepted invitations to participate in two debates, while Mayor Tom Barrett accepted four invitations. All would take place before the June 5 general recall election.
The day after the historic recall primary election in which both Gov. Scott Walker and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett got the decisive nod from their supporters, just how many debates the two will participate in seems to be, well, up for debate.
After the Walker campaign announced Wednesday that he would participate in two debates with his opponent, Barrett's campaign issued a press release saying the mayor had accepted invitations to four debates.
Barrett called Walker out, challenging him to accept the same invitations.
"Scott Walker loves to launch misleading attacks on jobs in news conferences and press releases, so let's meet face to face and compare our records and our visions on jobs before the people of Wisconsin," said Barrett in a written statement. "He can explain why Wisconsin lost more jobs than any other state in the nation under his watch."
Barrett said he has accepted the following invitations:
- A forum on June 3 hosted by the League of Women Voters and a consortium of statewide media broadcast live from the FOX6 studios in Brown Deer.
- A debate hosted by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association on May 25.
- A debate hosted by Marquette Law School, WisPolitics and WISN-TV 12 and "UpFront with Mike Gousha" on May 31.
- A debate hosted by Wisconsin Public TV, Wisconsin Public Radio, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Today’s TMJ4.
According to the Walker campaign, he has agreed to participate in the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association forum on May 25 and the May 31 debate with Mike Gousha.
Walker's camp said the governor will use the debates to highlight how his budget reforms are working.
“Governor Walker is excited to discuss the positive effects that the bold reforms put in place last year have brought to the people of Wisconsin and how those reforms are moving the state forward,” said Walker campaign spokeswoman Ciara Matthews. “He looks forward to the robust debates and contrasting his record of success that has laid the foundation for a successful future against the failed policies of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett that would take the state backward.”
Patch called the Walker campaign and spoke with Matthews. She said they have no further comment beyond what's in the press release so it looks like we will have two forums a week apart. The May 31 debate takes place just five days before voters head to the polls to decide the outcome of the recall.

What do they need to debate. Everybody knows what each one stands for. Walker has the right to refuse, and I hope he does, as he won the election fair and square. He does not have to bow to these whiney losers.

Walker did win the election fair and square. He then performed an about-face and began fulfilling the ALEC agenda instead of focusing on jobs and negotiating with unions. Because of that, he's up for a recall, costing the state how much again? $16 million? As CE Walker's mistakes cost Milwaukee County a small fortune. His office is higher so of course his mistakes are more expensive.
Walker doesn't get asked the hardball questions on Fox, at his fundraising functions, or when he's preaching the ALEC gospel in Arizona and Florida.
Let's test his moves on a real dance floor.

Blah, blah, blah. Same old tired rhetoric from Bren. At least Walker wasn't in Spain swinging a sweet no-bid contract with a foreign train manufacturer.

The ALEC agenda: free markets, limited government and individual liberty.
The BREN agenda: total dependence on the state, living at the expense of everybody else, and the equal sharing of misery. Remember, if you're not getting something for nothing, you’re not getting your fair share. Be a taker, join BREN today!

Walker won the elections with lies and distortions. Walker as everyone is now aware of can't seem to tell the truth about anything. So I think there were a ton of people who feel for the feel good lies Walker was spewing just to shake the etch a sketch after winning. That seems to be the method the plutocrats are using to fool people. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. Kick him to the curb.

Anyone can lie themselves into a job, but once the truth is exposed it is up to the people who voted him in to change their minds once supplies with truths and facts. I am afraid if Scotty boy has to run on truth and facts he will lose. If people what lies, attacks, hatred, division modernday slavery than they can chose to keep supporting Scotty boy.

It was only a waste of time when Scott Walker was misrepresenting himself during the 2010 campaign. Now let's see him defend ALEC's agenda to the people of Wisconsin.
I've never seen a sheep wear a t-shirt before.

Outside of Bren and a small group of people who take George Soros money to write lies, nobody has ever heard of the ALEC lobby. I'm real sure Walker won't talk about it, although he might mention the limits of government and living within our means. Two issues that play well with people who pay taxes in Wisconsin and across the country.

The only sheep I see are the ones who continue to support a potential criminal who can't tell the truth about anything that is simply a puppethead for the plutocratic koch snorting brothers. I think intelligent people clearly understand if your policies are good for all there is no reason to lie about them. Which Scotty boy doesn't seem to want to discuss truth he functions better with hatred, division, distortion and corporate welfare.

Well they can't have just one debate: If Barrett doesn't like the outcome he will ask for a do over.
Besides what can Barrett complain about? Didn't he copy Walker by using his tactics to fix problems? Maybe not considering Milwaukee's bond rating was dropped.

Craig, how many debates took place during the GOP presidential primaries? Were those do-overs from candidates who didn't "like the outcome?" Or is it possible that more topics can be covered with additional time?
Craig

Bren there is no topics to cover on this race. People have already made a decision regarding the race, none will change their minds.
The do over comment was because we are getting a do over election.

not richorapuppet, I think some folks are struggling with the fact that activist Chief Justice Roberts of the Supreme Court knocked campaign finance laws backward 50 years by re-arguing Citizens United instead of just reviewing the case as it was brought forward.
Some people don't realize the power that was handed over to the very wealthy by this action and the insidious influence on our democracy this unfettered spending has already cost. They believe the Tea Party is a grass roots movement and not a carefully designed astroturf initiative to engage and amplify the voice of the most extreme fringe of the GOP.
Low information voters.

I thought liberals wanted the courts to redefine marriage and knock civil law precedent back thousands of years?
The Tea Party was a direct response to the most divisive president in history and his overreach by seizing effective control of the healthcare industry. The 2010 election was just a warm up; no more compromise with welfare statists.

All Barrett has to do is ask Walker where 250k jobs are. Also, ask him how many "favors" he owes to the donors who will receive "favorable contracts" instead of Wisconsin companies, outside companies will be getting state contracts. Nothing is free. Lastly, just ask him why he has a legal fund, because you can only have a legal fund if you are indicted or under investigation. Those three items will send Walker on a downward spiral.

Government is not the answer, but government has a huge inpact on the economy through taxes and regulation. Excessive regulation has killed the paper, logging and mining industries in Wisconsin. It is difficult for companies to expand or move here as long as the political climate is in flux. Barrett has said he will raise taxes and has shown he does not want mining jobs with his lack of support for the last mining bill. Considering Milwaukee is home to a manufacturer of mining equipment, I think he needs to explain himself. Also, when Miller brewing was going to move their corp headquarters out of Milwaukee, Barrett made no effort to get them to stay. His answer was their minds are made up theres nothing I can do. Your man Barrett is an anti business liberal and will lose even more jobs in the state and therefore weaken an already over taxed over regulated economy.

Funny Pete. I opened my own business and have prospered under my own terms. Walker has not provided me any tax breaks or discounts on small business loans at all to open a business. The SBA offered a little money and is federally funded. To open a business here is Wisconsin you need to open your wallet to the tune of $250k to Walker and that will get you noticed and maybe a few state contracts. Walkers job reforms are an epic fail Pete, you know it and everyone else knows it. It is ok to admit that some of Walkers policies are wrong. Alfred called me a Democrat but the funny thing is, I like Ron Paul, not Obama and certainly not Romney. I go with the flow and the flow right now has me berating Walker.

I agree GearHead there is no shame in saying no to Stupid ideas hence the reason I can't understand why the Republican party insist on spending more and more on our biggest socialist program the country has THE MILITARY. Then deciding that it has to be paid for by charging it to our poor, elders, students, childrean while protecting the very rich. I just can't find a way to find rationality of that concept the Republican are spewing. If for no other reason if Wisconsin buys into the idea that the only way you can get a job is to bribe the employer than Walker makes sense. I however believe that a company can not survive without their employees and won't make a dime. Tell the Corporation don't worry you don't have to pay for anything we will just charge it to our school system and our police and we will cut off the food supply to the people. You people are irrational to even consider support the scam being spewed to you by Walker and his plutocratic party the Republicans.
