Host of GOP Heavyweights Slated for Pro-Walker Rally in Wauwatosa

Tommy Thompson, Mark Neumann, Jeff Fitzgerald, Alberta Darling, Leah Vukmir and more line up to support governor at Jan. 21 event at Hart Park.

A who's who of top Wisconsin Republican politicians are expected to appear at a Jan. 21 rally in support of Gov. Scott Walker at Hart Park in Wauwatosa.

While anti-Walker rallies have taken place throughout Wisconsin over the last year, this event is believed to be the first major rally in support of the governor since the effort to recall him began on Nov. 15.

Organizers are hoping for hundreds of Walker backers to take part in the rally, which will be headlined by some of the biggest Republican names in the state, including:

  • Former Gov. and U.S. Senate candidate Tommy Thompson;
  • Former congressman and U.S. Senate candidate Mark Neumann;
  • Speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly and U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Fitzgerald;
  • State Sens. Leah Vukmir, Alberta Darling, Glen Grothman and Van Wanggaard; and
  • State Reps. Robin Vos, Jeff Stone and David Craig;
  • State Treasurer Kurt Schuller.

Nationally known political activist Kim Simac, Libertarian speaker Tim Nerenz and teenage political activist Jerrid Madden also will take part in the rally, which will be held from 1 to 4 p.m.

The office of state Sen. Leah Vukmir confirmed Tuesday that she would be the introductory speaker at the event. Spokesmen for Thompson and Neumann also confirmed Wednesday that the two will attend the event.

Now that Walker has acknowledged that it's all but certain he will face a recall election, the organizers are calling the event a celebration of the governor's accomplishments, rather than an anti-recall rally. The event will take place just days after the Jan. 17 deadline for recall organizers to turn in 540,000 valid signature to force an election.

Behind the rally is what amounts to a grassroots movement in the virtual world. No single chartered organization is yet involved, although one is in the wings. Rather, a number of pro-Walker folks using social media came up with the idea and watched in surprise as it spiraled into a major Republican Party event.

"It's a collective of different Facebook groups," said Santo Ingrilli, who is acting as spokesman for the group. "We were just messaging back and forth, and the idea of some kind of rally took hold.

"We thought it was going to be this little organic event - maybe 100, 200 people in the park, with maybe Senator Vukmir on hand. We were going to have 'thank you' cards to fill out for the governor and his family," Ingrilli explained.

"Then we put it out there, and Vukmir agreed, and then we heard from Mark Neumann's office that he wanted to be on board. Then, of course, Tommy Thompson wanted to be part of it, too.

"It just kind of exploded from there."

Kind of. More than 500 people have clicked "Going" on the event's Facebook page, and it's possible that more than 1,000 will show up.

"In a perfect world, that would be a target," Ingrilli said. "I'd like to see 600 people. If we had 750, I'd be happy. If we got 1,000, I'd throw a party."

Doing It Like the Other Side

Much may depend on the weather, but the lineup of party heavyweights, once the word gets out, may draw the masses. And it may draw opponents as well.

Ingrilli said the governor himself was scheduled to be out of the state on the date, but probably would have demurred anyway to avoid imposing security concerns on the rally.

Ingrilli said a new Republican political action committee called Onward Wisconsin was incorporating this week and that "it will be the major sponsor when all is said and done."

As the list of powerful Republicans eager to show up grew, Ingrilli's cohort even went so far as to set up bus rides from much of the eastern portion of the state – much as Recall Walker organizers did in November when they organized a rally in Wauwatosa in front of Walker's home on the first day of signature-gathering.

Ingrilli's involvement started when he put up a tongue-twisting Facebook page called Walker Backers Watching Walker Stalkers. He never intended it to become a major organizing instrument for the GOP elite, and he is pretty surprised it turned out to be.

"Our side isn't usually that good at this," he said. "The other guys are the ones who get 40,000 people to show up at the Capitol. We just show up to vote."

Yes exactly. The Koch brothers are ordering Republicans to destroy the middle class. And it makes perfect sense, doesn't it? Own industries that rely on the buying power of the middle class, then spend money buying up politicians to do your bidding in order to destroy your customer base.

      That is what's going on.

It's time to put away the illogical arguments and just admit you hate Republicans because they aren't out to wrap the comforting arms of government around everyone, hold them tight and shield them from the realties of the big world.

Keith, no policies are being forced down anyone's throats by the Kochs and "predator capitalists", anymore than Soros is turning this nation into a Socialist state via the puppet Obama.

You see how stupid all that is? Or are you incapable of navigating anything but a one-way street?

It's time to back away from the BS. You don't like Republicans because you're a Democrat. You don't like that you lost the last election. You're attempting to ramp it all up into something other than what it is, both in source and scope, in order to justify your sore-loser recall effort. That's all it is.

You repeat the BS long enough and those susceptible to it buy it as gospel - on both sides. You want to keep going at it from that angle, fine. But don't ever expect to be taken seriously.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which opposed Walker's collective bargaining reforms, recently noted, "The governor did balance the budget … he did reduce the structural deficit significantly; he did put a lid on property tax increases; he did give schools and municipalities more control over their budgets than they've had in years."

What's more, the reforms pushed by Walker are themselves already having a beneficial effect. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was Walker's opponent in the 2010 election and later attacked his proposals to reform collective bargaining. But with the reforms on the books, Barrett used some of the bill's provisions to help reduce the city's health care bill, saying that the alternative was to cut 300 to 400 city jobs.

No doubt, the governors reforms are working, and now we want to thank him.

That is opinion and none of it rests on fact. Your angry, we get it. As are most liberals. Recalls are not designed to satisfy some emotional need. That is what political contributions are for. Maybe if Walker's Democratic challenger during the last election had not gone and used Walker's own policy (Act 10) in Milwaukee, you might actually have an arguement.

Keith S, I feel exactly the same way about Obama and did about Doyle as you do about Walker &Co. Here's the difference. I'm willing to accept the results of an election where the majority didn't agree with me. You're not. There is absolutely nothing, I repeat, nothing Walker and the Republicans are doing or can do that can't be reversed via the results of regular elections that will result in long term harm to the State. You're using the same argument every other partisan uses when attempting to paint the opponents as the Devil incarnate.

I haven't seen any evidence of you having a definitively insightful view of the state of things, so, aside from your refusal to accept defeat graciously, it's matter of subjective analysis that separates us regarding who you support and who I support.

Once again. It can wait 'til the next general. You're a sore loser. You're using BS to garner support for a recall to satiate your inability to process your loss in a reasonable fashion. Get over yourself.

And wouldn't one wonder why we need billionaires putting ads on TV and radio telling us how good we have it now? Wouldn't they be telling us this if we lived in dung huts too?

And why would Soros be a socialist when he relies on the same capitalistic principles the Kochs do? Why don't republicans ever expect the wealthies to contribute at any level they've seen gains in the last dozen or so years?

Did you consider that the reason that the Doyle recall attempt went nowhere was that most Republicans don't view the recall process as something that should be done just because they disagree with the policies of the person in office? Most of us didn't like what Doyle was doing, but we had respect for the electoral process and chose to wait for the next election to vote him out of office.

The more recent recalls weren't done because of policy differences, they were done because the dems left the state rather than do their job. You do see the difference, don't you?

They ignore the fact that the reason they have 40 hour work weeks and weekends off is because of unions. I know this...my husband is a member of USW, and they have all kinds of things lined up to combat this Koch lover and his ilk. The recall effort is not trying to "invalidate" the election of Walker. It is the constitutional right of the people in Wisconsin to recall a governor when they find out he was bought off like Walker was. Why do the Kochs calls get through and not any citizen of Wisconsin? THAT is why he is being recalled. He lied when he ran and pushed throught the agenda of big corporations to take total control away from the people. You Republicans are being fooled into thinking he is working for you. He is not. Gov. Walker has taken a walk of the political deep end and it started with the turning away of 800 million for the rail and transpiration infrastructure that right there would of created over 3000+ jobs. really look hard at what is going on the middle class is hurting and if we do not want to repeat history then we need to think about how to improve the states middle class not hurt it

Please extend beyond talking points. It is not just about union benefits. It is about fracking, privatizing education to avoid teaching science, taking healthcare away from children (read recent governmental reports,) taking the pension fund that was touted as one of the best run most financially stable in the US and allowing Walker's supporters access to the money as "investments," . . . I could go on - I just ask that people READ and not just one news source. This is much bigger than union members paying more for their benefits.

Kathy, You seem to be hooked on the talking points (of the far left). Who said anything about not teaching science? Paying the union xtra for health insurance has nothing to do with teaching.
The only change in healthcare is having people with means, pay a small part of the costs. Nothing is being taken away from children.
Allowing Walker's supporters access to the pension money is a flat out lie.
This is much bigger than union members paying for benifits. It about a balanced budget in our state. We need to be fiscally responsible right now.
We elected Governor Walker to do exactly what he has done. The unions can see the writing on the wall, so they are fighting Walker with everything they have. The recall effort can't find the real reason for a recall, so they throw everything including the kitchen sink at it.
      I could go on too.

Education is not being Privatized and avoiding teaching science, people have been given a choice. (don't dems claim to be the party of pro-choice?)

No one took any pensions funds, even though you unionistas/dems boycotted company's your pensions were invested)

Kathy and greensheet, here is your reality beyond talking points. My mom worked for DHHS for over 20 years. She retired not too long ago, knowing that her health insurance premiums would probably go up, but that would be okay until medicare kicked in. Fast forward to now, and she's looked at premiums for drugs and visits that have TRIPLED. So key points here... she was ALREADY paying her "fair share" for benefits through copays, ect and years of service for which she was not paid a market value wage, nor offered the kinds of promotion opportunities seen in the private sector. You think that paying your fair share isn't bankrupting the middle class. I contend that inadequate insurance, like the ones many Americans see as "okay" are bankrupting the middle class. The question shouldn't be "why do the union people think they shouldn't have to pay" and more "why do our employers think we don't deserve some kind of guarantee of security in times of extreme health crises, and moreover, why do we live in a society where someone with a decent job and savings could go completely bankrupt just because they got cancer?"

Listen to the absolute hate spewing from the left. The "enlightened, open minded, free thinking left". They claim to belong to the side that owns compassion and yet all I ever hear and see is hatred. They are only compassionate and accepting if you follow in lockstep with the ideas they espouse. The only morality is the morality they believe in. They believe in unfettered free speech until it is speech they do not agree with. They believe in the sanctity of clean elections only until their candidate does not win. Then they try to circumvent the process and bastardize the election by attempting to remove elected officials just because they don't agree with their policies. THAT's WHAT ELECTIONS ARE FOR. You don't remove legally elected officials because they govern in a way you don't agree with. You remove them for breaking laws....like stealing from medical malpractice funds, or balancing the budget by taking money from highway funds.

Where were you people when Doyle was stuffing his pockets with casino money?

The hypocrisy of the left would be funny if it weren't so disgraceful and damaging.

I think the hate is spewing from people like you that are jealous of people that you felt weren't hurting enough.

It is funny how Republicans make this dishonest claim that Democrats are perpetuating class warfare, when they have been at war with the middle class for years. You actually see nurses, teachers, police, and firemen as some kind of enemy instead of your neighbors.

      You are pathetic.

You want my vote back, don't tell me about what Walker did or didn't do. Tell me your better plan. Tell me how you intend to hold the line on spending, not raise taxes, and put my friends back to work.

You were once a Democrat? So now you are a proud member of the Party of Hate and Fear-mongering? That's quite a step up.

Democrats are still the party of change. You have joined the Party that elects errand boys such as Scott Walker. Forget his complete failure at the county level, but he has lied and cheated. Whether or not you agree with the policy of destroying collective bargaining (Which is what this all about. This is just the first step, to a Right to Work state.) disenfranchising voters is the way you want to get things done?

Hmmm... never been a democrat. Let me check that.

      Parents both teachers: Check
      Union employee: Check
      Married to public employee: Check
Voted for Obama, Kerry and Clinton (twice): Check

Yup, your right. I had no basis to claim that. Or maybe I just grew disgusted about the way my party conducted its business. Maybe I just grew sick of the intolerance of the left. We value free speech, but only when its ours. We value others opinions, but only when its ours. We tolerate change, but only our change. We belittle our opponents, and cry and whine when we don't get our way. We fail to understand why others disagree and that's why we lose.

Look around. Open your eyes. We have become everything that we always claimed the republicans were. And thank you for reinforcing my point.

So yes, I will keep my vote until you earn it back.

If they feel the need to disrupt events like the Special Olympics ceremony, the State Fair opener, Toys for tots, Lighting of the Christmas tree etc.. they will not be able to resist an actual political rally. I guess that's what you do when your ideals are continually being disproved. You try and shout down the message. A normal person doesn't like a radio host or television commentator they just don't listen or watch. These people make it a mission to try and keep others from listening also by trying to get them off the air. It's not enough for these people to express their views at their own rallys they need to try and disrupt ours. It's pretty disgusting actually especially because they seem to be so proud of it.

We don't have giant union coffers to draw off. We genuinely believe in a responsible government for all and this was set up as a total grass roots effort. The Koch brothers statements are more than an indicator that you are completely clueless. The Kochs donated a total of $160,500.00 total to all WI candidates since 2003 including the many Democrats they donated to. Unlike the Recallistas, we are not bought and paid for by the Unions. We are 100% grass roots. We are not taking money from the GOP, Americans For Prosperity, or any other big name group. This event was organized solely by a small group of Conservatives on Facebook and has grown into the monster event that it now is.

Trust me, I would *LOVE* to be getting paid to do this. You could not be further off-base...

No, you aren't bought and paid for by the unions. After all, that would mean that stood up for your neighbors and the people that put themselves on the line every day.

Instead you are brainwashed by the likes the Brothers Koch- a couple of racists that still contribute to the John Birch Society that their father founded.

I can't change your minds. You obviously don't have the critical thinking skills to see the damage that Walker is inflicting.

Maybe the Republicans can explain away all the John Doe investigations going on. Maybe Scott Walker will explain how he and Tim Russell transferred funds from the Alonzo Cudworth American Legion Post No. 23 to an organization run by Tim Russell that was set up with 3 phony officers and non-valid 501(c)3 non profit status, the reason Walker and Russell gave for having the funds moved from the American Legion Post. I want to see all of these Republicans stand up with Walker whose appointees stole from wounded veterans and the wives and orphans of soldiers killed in action.

@William Franson -- the question needs to be asked WHY Scott Walker felt the need to remove administration of those funds from the American Legion Post, which had been doing a very good job with them, and give it to a long-time associate who then proceeded to steal from the families of veterans.

Tim Russell was a student at Marquette University in 1988, when Scott Walker had his endorsement for student president revoked by the Marquette Tribune for underhanded campaign tactics, and copies of that newspaper disappeared in the early morning hours.

I think this whole investigation is yet more proof how much integrity Scott Walker has. Knowing how extensive a john doe investigation is, he still called for one to be conducted focused on his staff. The fact that an embezzler was found and will soon be brought to justice thanks to his actions is something to be celebrated. If he had swept the matter under the rug like most politicians a pedophile would still be free to victimize children. You can spin this however you want but the truth is there for all to see. Trying to somehow paint the man responsible for bringing this man to justice as somehow culpable for the actions of Tim Russell is laughable. Is the DPI to blame for allowing a pedophile to work for them? TGFSW

My friends and I have been sending money to recall your idiotic govenor because we recognize and degenerative when we see one. Sounds like and I agree with some of the people on here that those of your sticking up for the Koch brothers and the ever dying tea party are just mad and upset that they are in the minority with their voice. I am surprised that these republicans/tea partiers are even coming out in the cold/snow... they most definitely will blend in with the snow and how is it that they are going to move all those wheelchairs down there? The question here is why when we had 8 years of bush did you republicans not see what your party is worth. You have only yourselves to blame and when you can't look at yourself in the mirror than you find other people to blame.. oh oh wasn't me!! Well your state looks pretty ridiculous right now and I hope that the majority do what Ohio did and slap Walker right across the face. I have met so many good people during the signature collections-people with so many stories of why they support the recall. While the Right --with lazy support from the media love to portray the main reason for the recall as Collective bargaining, it is seldom listed as the main reason by so many who have signed. They are concerned with the everyday bread and butter issues, like good schools and health care and the enviroment. Once again, Thank you.

It cracks me up reading posts from conservatives who use words like "logic" and "research." The only "research" you do is what you read (or what is read to you) or what you hear so long as it reinforces what you want to believe. The Koch brothers want to deregulate the EPA, pay lower wages and hang the unions. They head a consolidation of global companies. What you don't buy, someone else will. They don't need a strong middle class. What matters to them are the shareholders and their top execs and bonuses. Don't think for a moment that they care a lick for anyone they can't use or exploit. They remind me of the two Wall Street brothers from "Trading Places."

@Mark: Well done. The Democratic platform only works for you when you can characterize yourself as a victim. Once you break free of that mindset you are on your way to success and have no further need for the Democrats and their platform of division. Their platform is basically to make this about haves and have nots and that the have nots only chance at success in life is to get it from the haves. Everything is a zero sum game with the Democrats. If person A is successful it must be at the expense of person B. Just about every one on the left that is in here complaining is doing so because some entitlement they believe they have a right to has been taken away, whether government or union supplied. Once you stop believing your success is dependent on government and union entitlements you no longer have a need for the Democratic party. You are no longer a helpless victim and can stand on your own two feet. And now you can start thinking for yourself. And the elitists on the left don't like that.

There was no "recall election". Ament resigned when it became apparent that his argument that he didn't know what was going on with the pension fund while at the same time setting himself wasn't going to hold up. Resigning allowed him to collect the nice little pension he set up for himself.

Based on your assumption of what the majority wants and doesn't want, we should be holding elections on a quarterly basis for all positions, since it's entirely possible that results would be different that often. There's a reason we don't do that and it's pretty obvious to everyone why that is.

Up until this latest go round, recalls have been used responsibly and not become a tool to be used in the game plan of one side of the political equation or the other because it got its you-know-what handed to it unexpectedly in the last general election. That will probably be changing going forth, thanks to you folks who helped initiate and support this radical reaction to your disappointment over a misbegotten forgone conclusion.

Either that or we change the law, something I fully expect you and others on your side to support in the future, having had a "change of heart" about all the disruption this has caused, in the event this one is successful.

This is not a "special instance". There's nothing that has happened or that will happen under Scott Walker's charge that will cause permanent damage (in fact, it might have quite the opposite effect, but I'm being generous here), that can't be changed, if necessary, via the results of the next general election. Your side has just effectively found a loophole to attempt to undo the results of the last one.

Lyle, I'm from the right and am not worried at all about the recall. I have always liked a party and will look forward to another one once this is all said and done. I am also not paid to post here and will not be paid to verify the recall signatures I will be verifying. This rally is to show support for the Governor. He has has to withstand lies and death threats from the left and the silent majority is tired of sitting back and watching it. Nope, not willing to be silent anymore.

Bob, one state law I would like to see passed would be that the party that calls for a recall and those who sign the recall sheet, be the ones who pay for the recall. I made my voice clear in November when I cast my vote for Governor Walker and find it offensive that this recall is even taking place, especially since there has been nothing illegal done.

@Tammy Christian...If you're not worried, then why do you feel compelled to verify signatures? It seems to be a waste of time.

If you read the state constitution you'll find that there is no stated reason for attempting a recall of an elected official, for illegal acts or otherwise. It is much like a provision found in parliamentary structures and represents the equivalent of "lack of confidence" vote. Bob McBride has a valid point to his argument, that once the process begins, successful or not, it will set a precedence that will be used by all parties. However, I would rather put up with the recalls than have it amended or eliminated all together.

Well, let's see how this all-star rally works for Gov. Walker. Perhaps AFP (Koch) will slap some Chanel lipstick and fluffy big pageant hair on this pig and make it magically grow to gargantuan proportions through the wonder of digital stock photography/videography. Perhaps AFP can "borrow" the protest scenes from earlier this year, photoshop the easily-readable signage to pro-Walker messaging, and uplink it to Fox for national exposure.

I remember how the Koch brothers bused 3 dozen radicals around the country and purchased so much exposure and coverage that I was almost afraid to leave my house for fear of being run down by all the Tea Party buses that just had to be careening around Greendale.

Let's see how they slant this rally! A good PR lesson for all.

After a year of reading opinions from both sides, the elephant in the room continues to be ignored. The opposing sides do not speak the same language. Those with a favorable opinion of Walker's reforms cite that things are better from a strictly financial language (apparently ignoring the job situation). Those in opposition who say that things are worse, do it from a holistic language. It is easy to speak only one language; it is difficult to translate:
"Schools can balance budgets" translated is "School Boards were given the power to make drastic cuts which hurt students in the long run"
"Unions protect workers and give them favorable working conditions" is translated "Unions drive taxes up so they can push regulation on business"
I sure hope our next Governor is bi-lingual.

BTW, Walker, has your boyfriend David Koch called you lately? You were positively gushing when you thought you were talking to him...possible love connection, eh?

I find it amusing that "heavyweights" are gathering to support the governor. Wouldn't "Republican" politicians be more accurate? Isn't this what politicians do?

In reading the other comments I couldn't help noticing that everyone seems to be a partisan of one "side" or another, "left" versus "right." Shirts versus skins. "Us" versus "them." This all plays into the hands of the "Republicans," who in modern times have devolved into a criminal organization. Politics is the method, but crime is the intent. Maybe this recall will result in some convictions.

As for the "Democrats," they had eight years under Doyle to enact legislation that could have avoided all this trouble. Such as progressive taxation. For the unaware, progressive taxation means a higher marginal rate of tax for higher levels of income. It is what we had after World War II and the decades afterward. It worked, budgets were balanced, and the country thrived, including for the rich.

Unfortunately, people are fooled into thinking that you have to look at the world as two factor - one "side" - other "side." "Left" - "right." "Liberal" "Conservative." Meanwhile the criminals laugh all the way to the bank.

I see someone thinks I'm under the influence of Ron Paul. I'm not. I like his approach to the rest of the planet's "countries," but not to his approach to the planet istelf. He also seems to have a problem with people who aren't "Caucasians." He appears to have some difficulty understanding a woman's not so much "right," but freedom to choose to reproduce or not reproduce.

Ron Paul also has some simplistic approaches to the economy, like going back to the gold standard as a basis for our money supply. Like it or not, we have what is known as a mixed economy, in which governments at various levels play a vital role. If government functions move in the direction of privatization, you get the kind of thing that is trending in Wisconsin: crony capitalism. Friends of Walker are doing quite well in this brave, new world. For a few months, at least. If all goes well, we can put them all in jail.

Seriously, I will be casting a vote when and if the time comes, for the person I feel better matches my own vision for the state, whoever it is, at that time. I am not tied to any party. I am a free thinker. I did not vote for Governor Scott Walker, but he continues to impress me. I haven't heard squat from the people itching to take his job, except for how Governor Walker is doing everything wrong and how they plan to do everything right. What will they trim? What tax will they increase to get the added revenue to contiue to feed our fat, roley poley state government, or how lean will they make it and how. What about getting a grip on all of the fraud that is occurring in this state, how are they going to handle all of it?

Really? The Koch brothers? People, that is getting soooo old. From what I have seen so far, Governor Walker has his own brain and seems pretty determined to continue to govern in his own way.

@Christine: I was at a benefit for a non profit organization in Franklin last Fall. They employ disabled workers who would otherwise be on public assistance, they even supply them with social workers employed by the Company. The anti Walker protestors were out in force because Walker was the keynote speaker. Media didn't mention how nasty the protestors were, so I will:
Women were degraded with words I can not use in this forum, words that would make a drunken sailor blush. Nasty comments were shouted at all who entered the benefit, with no understanding that many were Union Construction workers who just finished a huge addition to the building. While Walker spoke, the protestors beat on the doors and windows. Police sirens eventually drowned out the pounding, but everyone at the benefit was on edge wondering if we were being torched.
Respectful, decent, and resonable people do not act this way....
      'nuff said.

      here's the video link:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqQzoGGQZ4M&feature=related

Department of Workforce Development records show shockingly low rates of compensation for workers with disabilities at Opportunities, Inc, which is mostly funded by government revenue, pays no property or income taxes, and made $2.9 million in net profits in 2009, and serve a number of major companies including Trek Bicycle. Nevertheless their pay scale for workers with disabilities is stunningly low:
      • 20% make less than $1 per hour, with some making as little as 11 cents per hour;
      • 50% make less than $2 and hour; • 92% make less than $5 and hour;
      • 99% make less than the minimum wage.

I'd like to know what Opportunities, Inc, total sales were for the year before passing judgement on their net income. As regards what their clients are paid, I would imagine the amount of supervision needed and output per hour comes into play. I've been in a few of these operations (sheltered workshops) and depending on the degree of disability I could see how feasibly it might be difficult to pay more than the rates listed above. Keep in mind that there are caregivers in these operations and that part of what these jobs accomplish is taking the burden off of the families of the folks who work there. I would have to say that if the folks who trust their loved ones to Opportunities, Inc. felt they were being used unfairly, you'd be hearing about it or they'd have have a hard time retaining enough folks to fulfill the contracts they win. They're not the only game in town.

Christine, Cynthia called the leftists exactly what they are, thugs. The last time my friends got together a little group and went through Madison with their signs showing support for Governor Walker, a leftist thug through a cup of coffee on one of them.
I was also at the Rally in Madison when Palin was a guest speaker. The drums, bangos and mouths formed a barrier so when we went to leave, we had to walk through them. So ignorant and so childish. They tried their best to provoke us as we left, but being the adults we are, we ignored them. Believe me, they were trying to rile everyone. Didn't work. It was funny to see them make fools of themselves and not get what they wanted to accomplish from us!

Bren, go to Youtube and look up the different rallies yourself. Do your own work. You will see how ridiculous the left acts at rally's. It's actually comical. I honestly believe most lefties have been dropped on their heads at one point in their lives.

Now, all you lefties can leave our event alone. We are getting together to support the Governor and to meet those of us who have become friends over the internet. There's no reason for you to be there. We allow you to have your time, and we are now having our time.

Opportunities Inc. does NOT take government handouts. They DO pay property taxes. A nonprofit pays no income taxes, but they do pay property taxes.
Also the people who work there are not getting a gvt. handout. This saves all of us money because the Company also supplies a social worker for every two employees.
As far as recording what was going on there: I do not care if you chose to believe me or not, I have no reason to twist the truth.
The link to the video shows less than 2 minutes, this is after all attendees were inside. Even for a libitard protestor, it wouldn't make any sence to be nasty to your own kind. Use your head Bren- get the I phone off vibrate and remove it from your rectum.

As you perhaps saw in the Business section of today's MJS, WI leads the U.S. in public employee job cuts-10.1% or 7,987 jobs between April and June 2011.

Personally, I'm not a public employee but I'm really struggling with thousands of job cuts in the middle of a recession. I don't see how putting more people on unemployment is going to help, short- or long-term.

I will not be there at the rally in person, I will be there in spirit. I also will be mailing my check to Walker's campaign. The amount my taxes went down for the first year ever will be given back to the man who has fiscal decency.
One thing everyone must understand. Regardless if Walker is in or out after the recall election; the State will have spent $9-$20 Million for this. My expectation is for the State to make FURTHER cuts to offset that dollar amount. So, be prepared all of you who are pushing for this recall.
I also fear there will be endless recalls from here on out. Next Fall, the same monster may rear it's ugly head. This will be one way to stop recalls, the State can't afford them.
Should the World economy keep going down the toilet- more cuts will be necessary in the future. Welcome to the real world; if you abuse the wealth of your rich Uncle, eventually he will run out of money and you will be S.O.L.

He is one of those indispensable employees who does his job, calls in sick maybe once every 4 years, and knows how to work within a budget. He is also a supervisor who has had to deal with not being able to fire bad employees because of union power and collective bargaining! But how sweet... No more collective bargaining, so now they can get rid of the employees who abuse the system and hire better people who will appreciate a government paycheck. And... I might add pretty darn good benefits!

Scott Walker admitted to a Congressional Committee that he did NOT campaign on the issue of collective bargaining, during the election Campaign. He was elected on other issues. After he was sworn in, he brought out his Hidden Agenda. Now he must pay for his dishonesty!. Collective bargaining is a major issue affecting the future of the state, and drew over 50,000 people to the state capitol to protest. It was not an issue which the people were debating. Using “Balancing the budget” as an excuse Gov. Walker brought out from nowhere his hidden Agenda - the repeal of collective bargaining, which the citizens of Wisconsin did not vote on. The first thing HE attempted to do after he won the election on other issues, was to follow this path. The People of Wisconsin were not demanding action on this issue, and it was not an issue during the election. Gov. Walker tried to pull a "fast one" on the people of Wisconsin, but did not get away with it. He attempted to force his personal political viewpoint on the people of Wisconsin . A Major change in the direction of a state government must be discussed by all those concerned. A major change cannot be imposed. Walker was not elected to be a dictator, but to carry out the will of the people. The elimination of collective bargaining was not the will of the people. His actions were dishonest. What Gov. Walker did in Wisconsin, was the Imposition of a dictatorship (His), even though dressed in the trappings of democracy.

When President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Acts into law in the 1960's the South was Democratic at that time. He and these cronies have done everything in their power to desimate Wisconsin workers, labor unions, teachers, firefighters, and police and reward outsiders who are out to make Wisconsin a Right-to-Work State, dependent on Koche Brothers and the like to save them only after they destroy them. Gov. Walker couldn't hightail it to Washington fast enought to get the backing of "Corporate" donors and Tea Partiers. They care nothing about Wisconsin or this country!

Got it! You are in favor of perpetuating a failing public school system that enables the unions to rip-off the taxpayer with teachers that are overcompensated and who, as a group, underperform to the expectations of our children's future.

Less than 8% of working American belong to a union. That obviously means that the vast majority of working America [92%] can't relate and won't relate to your calls for supporting what union greed has done to America.

You are in denial, and your head is deep in the sand knowing that the union leadership is profiting greatly with huge salaries, lavish expense accounts and unchecked freedom to hand out tens of millions of dollars to support political actions that will let them stay in power and continue to line their pockets with the unions dues that flow in.

You're worried about the influence of the Koch brothers? How ridiculous!

@C. Sanders -- This is about much more than the schools. Some of our school districts are doing a good job of education while others are doing poorly. The problem is not the teachers, it's the students and the environment in which the teachers have to function.

And, while throwing more money at a problem rarely solves it, neither does depriving a problem of funding solve it either. All Scott Walker did was to cut state aid to education and then put the districts on a starvation diet to disguise that fact. More useless testing and more money bled off for vouchers is not going to help. Neither is making the teaching profession less attractive to anyone who hopes to make a decent middle-class living.

If Union Grove can do it, anyone else can, if they have the courage and ability to forge ahead.

Hardly. What's brought chaos to this state started with the ridiculous demonstrations in Madison early last year at the behest of the unions, the unprecedented use of recalls to attempt to placate the sensibilities of sore losers, the pointless and expensive recount of the supreme court race, and, now this equally as unnecessary recall. The division is the result of a class of folks who hold themselves above their counterparts in the private sector, who have become convinced that the private sector exists for no other reason than to provide them with jobs and to take the fall for them when the economy falters. They're selfish, they're sore losers and they, alone, bear the the blame for the current state this State finds itself in.

That it would become impossible to support the public sector in the lifestyle to which they had become accustomed should have been evident to everyone at least 4 years ago. It had to happen, it did and it will continue to happen, whether it be Walker who holds the office or anyone else.

This was their reaction when Walker called for union concessions in December:
"State workers and other public workers aren't about to sacrifice their benefits for some political future of a tyrant," said Marty Beil, executive director of AFSCME, the largest state employee union. "This is all about Scott Walker kind of bringing back, instead of public service, it is public servitude. He's the master of the plantation and we're supposed to be his slaves; that's his philosophy here. So I think he'd be real happy if we were paid minimum wage and had no pension at all."

I see it this way. The amount of people who demonstrated at the capital, was just a mere sprinkle in the bucket, compared to the population of voters in this state and I have not seen the vast majority of them stumbling over each other to sign a petition. It's either because they agree with what Scott Walker has done so far to govern the state, or they are experiencing much bigger financial problems than the whiners and those whiners have done pissed them off. This isn't about bargaining rights. What do they need bargaining rights for? It's about them getting the weight put back into their pockets. They do not care about me. They do not care about you. And the politicians itching to get Scott Walkers job do not care about them. Right now, all you hear is those politicians babbling incessantly on how Scott Walker has ruined education in this state and what a naughty thing he did to our beloved educators. Those politicians are gambling on getting the educators votes. That is their want. If it comes down to Wants Vs Need. I hope need wins >:/

@Pamela....I see it differently. What I see is a loss of rights and a move to suppress the political opposition. Since the election of Walker and the Republican majority in both chambers of the legislature, there has been a concerted effort to transfer more and more power to the executive branch. Whether or not public employee union full collective bargaining is returned, I want to see the balance of power returned to the state government. If that means recalling the governor or winning control back of one chamber of the legislature, that would return the balance forcing parties to compromise. Your statement concerning want verses need is all relative and subjective. One person's want is another person's need.

If this is a volunteer effort to challenge the signatures on Gov. Walker's behalf, no problem with your evident bias. If you're talking about working for the GAB at taxpayer expense, now that it's been determined the challenging won't be done by Walker's people, yes, I have a problem with it.

Whether the recalls are successful or not, I think that those pushing for recalls will begin to understand the consequences. Lyle, those pushing the recalls will never accept responsibility for their actions. Their entire philosophy revolves around the problems they face being someone else's fault. The party they support caters to the mentality and, in fact, uses the same excuse itself when called on the carpet for not living up to the promises its candidates make during the election season. Life's just easier when you're a perpetual victim and never responsible for anything and can point your finger elsewhere and stomp and kick and whine and make a mess in your playpen when you don't get your way.

The difference is that, even in areas of this state where we have Democrats who epitomize the "spend money like there's no tomorrow" on nonsense (Milwaukee - Tom Barrett - Choo chop loop to nowhere - at a cost to taxpayers of $10's of millions of dollars), even the most rabid fire breathing right wingers aren't calling for his head on a stick simply because they don't agree with him. That's the difference Randy.

One side can bide it's time until the next election, the other - your side - insists it be placated now. Everybody else be dammed. You're victims - you demand justice now. Screw everyone else.

Randy, there's a very simple concept here that you seem to have forgotten. And that's when the party you vote for loses an election, the party you didn't vote for is very likely to do the things that caused you to support their opponents in the first place.

Your side seems to have forgotten that somewhere along the line. I don't know if it's because you bought into the supposed death knell for the Republican party inherent in the victories to you experienced in '08 and you just can't fathom that the reversal in fortune you experienced in '10 is real and not some mistake, or what. But, hence the term "sore loser".

For some reason, you seem to think you're entitled to a do-over based on the fact that you disagree with the policies of the opposing party now in office. You extrapolate a doom and gloom future based on your opposition to those policies that, as of right now, show's no evidence of coming to fruition. You couple that with what amounts to a conspiracy theory about a couple of brothers, bolstered by "evidence" from a prank phone call - and then pull all that together as a justification for an action unprecedented in the entire history of this state.

You may go by what you read here, but I'm going by more than just that. I'm going by pronouncements from political leaders on your side who've signed onto this insanity because they can smell victory seized in a sketchy fashion from the jaws of a legitimate defeat.

      That's the difference, Randy.

@Bob McBride....I don't agree that it is the case of permanent victimization of those strictly on the left. There's enough victimization to go around. However, I see a sign of positive; in as much as people aren't just sitting by and complaining. They are taking action. I don't necessarily agree with the timing of the recall, but it is preferable to violent action. I saw too much of that back in the sixties and seventies. We could have it worse, we could have a proposition system like other states and look what it got them. Every since Prop. 13 in California passed in the seventies, the state has been on a downward slide.

@Bob McBride -- There's a very simple concept that Walker and his supporters are forgetting. A narrow 52% margin in a low turnout year is not a mandate to make such sweeping changes as he has done. Especially when he was not honest about his intentions once in office. The do-over is to see if those swing voters who voted for him the first time have changed their minds once they learned what he's really about.

I guess he and the Fitzgeralds should have thought about the fact that Wisconsin does have a provision for recall. Gov. Walker didn't listen to my email back in February. Maybe he'll listen to my signature on a petition.

Lyle, the whole premise for the existence of the left is the victim class. The more people your side can convince to join that class, the better off your are. All you have to do is look at the "99%" movement to see it taken to its extreme. By buying into that, you essentially mandate that all but 1% of the nation are victims - you don't even give people a choice anymore - they're victims by your definition and if they don't accept that they are, its because they're in denial. And the only people that can save from victimhood, or sans being willing to accept their victimhood, their denial, are you progressives.

Being a victim means you never have to really take responsibility for your position in life, your actions, the way you feel. Being a victim excuses the kind of behavior that results in actions, like this recall, that can't be justified logically in any other fashion. Being a victim means you're entitled to do things or, at the very least, you're excused for doing those things that a person assumed to be responsible for their position in life and self-reliant would not and could not do.

Victimhood, as I've defined it, explains everything that has occurred since Scott Walker has taken office in January of last year. It explains the sore loser mentality, it explains the childish behavior. It explains the unwillingness to accept its share of our declining economy on the part of the public sector. And ultimately it explains this insane recall.

      Randy,

Once again, when your side loses, regardless of the margin, you have no logical right to assume that actions won't be taken that don't agree with. Your decisions to blow the impact of those actions out of proportion are you own. I could suggest all the same things about our current president, who it could be argued today wouldn't necessarily survive an election, based on his approval ratings.

He's made some very radical moves over the past few years, he didn't say he was going to do them and he's made some promises that haven't been borne out over time. That doesn't mean he deserves to be removed from office before the regular end of his term.

The world doesn't owe it to you to see things your way. You're not entitled to have your viewpoints taken into consideration by the opposing party when you lose. And again, because you decide something is the end of the world doesn't make it so. However, since you are indeed a member of the victim class, you don't see it that way, along with the rest of those who signed the recall petitions. We have a provisions in our state laws that you folks have chosen to exploit for nothing more than political advantage. Up until this time it has been used responsibly. Shame on the rest of us who don't view ourselves as victims for not anticipating you victims would use it in this fashion. The best we can hope for at this point is that in the near future we'll be able to get rid of that option for you folks.

@Bob McBride....To claim that 99% of all citizens are victims of the 1% is easy to say, but difficult to prove. Have the 1% benefited from the past three decades; of course they have. However, did they personally victimize others, I think not. It may be in some cases that unidentified members of the 1% group took actions that might have caused such disparity, but it is a systems thing. Since it is the system that has created such disparity, then there is only one clear action; change the system. The debate rests on what changes are to be made and what is to be left alone. It is difficult, since we can't even agree on what the goals should be. In essence, should the goals be focused on the whole community or only on the individual?

Unions don't care about any class, I saw it first hand when a majority of my company closed and our union president proudly said how he has closed bigger companies, then froze our strike fund and continued to collect dues from the few of us still working there. Then when I filed a petition to decertify them they fought it for almost a year just to turn and walk away when it was time to vote... Sound familiar! They didn't want the public records to show they lost... Those of us still employed know what happened, and now I see an extra 50 bucks a month on my paycheck. Remember that while praising unions as some kind of savior for the middle class.

      http://www.facebook.com/pages/Operation-Write-in-Scott-Walker-in-Democrat-primary/280495275337549?sk=wall

This page and their followers are demonstrating violence and threats to infiltrate harm onto citizens and Walker Recaller's and Protestors, including saying they are exercising to their right to protest with baseball bats and conceal and carry law.

I have taken screen shots of all the postings and comments proving this (did it quickly before they deleted postings and will block me), and will be reporting this to Wauwatosa PD for Saturday's Pro-Rally and any other intuitions you suggest I send it to as I have the screen shots of the postings encouraging potential violence. Nothing more to have a peaceful Rally as its their right and rights of citizens to have a peaceful environment, regardless if you are a Recall Petitioner or Pro-Walker.

This is absurd behavior with lack of integrity that is encouraging violence protesting.

      5. William Frahm II...indicates regarding if protestors come to the Support Walker Rally, "anyone have a few baseballs that they could bring," and "Concealed carry is upon us...maybe our supporters should exercise that right if protestors decides to get smart...
