Toddler Injured in Crash Resulting in OWI Charges for Sussex Dad
Ian K. Anderson, 29, had a .18 percent blood alcohol concentration when Waukesha County deputies found his vehicle in the ditch, according to a criminal complaint.
A Sussex man is accused of driving drunk on Sunday, injuring his 1-year-old daughter, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in Waukesha County Circuit Court.
Ian K. Anderson, 29, is charged with operating while intoxicated/causing injury with a minor child in the vehicle, operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration/causing injury with a minor child in the car and bail jumping. If convicted of the OWI charge, Anderson faces up to 60 days in jail, a fine between $600 and $4,000 and having his driver’s license revoked for between two and four years. He faces up to nine months in jail and a $10,000 fine if convicted of the bail jumping count.
According to the criminal complaint:
Waukesha County deputies were dispatched to a report of a Mini Cooper in the ditch at 5:37 p.m. Sunday on Richmond Road, west of Highway 164. Anderson was identified as the driver and he told the deputies he and his daughter were fine.
“I don’t remember,” Anderson, in a slurred voice, told the deputies when asked what happened. “I must have hit ice or something and it caused me to go off the road.”
Deputies noticed an eight pack of Guinness, a six pack of Red Apple Ale and frozen juice containers that showed the items were purchased at 5:18 p.m. in Ashippun. A deputy also located a water bottle that had a light brown liquid they believed to be intoxicants.
The Sussex Fire Department treated the 1-year-old girl, who had a bruised and swollen right hand.
Anderson was continuously falling during his field sobriety tests, so the tests were stopped. His preliminary breath test indicated he had a .18 percent blood alcohol concentration.
Anderson told investigators he started drinking at noon at home and stopped at 2 p.m.
Court records show Anderson was charged in 2012 with hit and run. He was released from the Waukesha County Jail on Monday on $500 bail.
