County, Developer Agree to Land Swap
Deal will reroute the Bugline Trail in order to keep it from interfering with the Cannery Crossings development in Sussex.
The Cannery Crossings development project has overcome another hurdle holding it back from becoming reality.
The Waukesha County Board has voted unanimously to allow for a transfer of land containing part of the Bugline Trail in exchange for another parcel of land in order to reroute the trail.
With the approval, the county gave the developers about 0.85 acres of land in exchange for a 0.71 acre parcel. The county’s portion containing the trail was valued at $267,000 in 2007, compared to $222,000 for the land it obtained in the swap.
The proposed Cannery Crossings development located near Waukesha Avenue and Main Street will be a mixed use commercial and residential project. The development company-Mammoth Springs LLC is expected to present plans to the village by fall.
The project is considered a major portion of the future of Sussex's downtown and a vital cog in the redevelopment of the area.
The county also has $704,000 budgeted in its 2012 capital projects plan to pave the Bugline Trail next year.
