Batter up: the grill is open.

8-twelve MVP Bar & Grill, the partnership between Brewers left-fielder Ryan Braun and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, announced its opening Thursday, just minutes before it said the doors would open at 4 p.m.

The restaurant with the name taken from the MVP's jersey numbers (Braun’s eight and Rodgers’ 12), is located at 17800 W. Bluemound Rd., in the former Charro pan-Latin restaurant, in the Town of Brookfield.

"We wanted to let our online friends be the first to know, we will open for dinner tonight at 5pm," the restaurant unveiled on its Facebook page. "We will be taking walk-ins only throughout the weekend. Check http://www.8-twelve.com/ for our menu & more information"

Omar Surg, co-owner and president of SURG Restaurant Group (Carnevor, 8-twelve, Ryan Braun Graffito, Umami Moto, Graffito Florida, Bradford Beach), confirmed on Twitter it was opening.

"We kept it quiet but YES we are opening @8TwelveMVP tonight starting at 4pm," Surg wrote.

Dinner and a full bar are available. The restaurant, run by chefs Rafael Elisea and Andrew Miller, plans to add a lunch menu starting Aug. 3 and brunch on Aug. 5.

The restaurant's Facebook page has photos of entrees such as Cedar Planked Scottish Shetland Salmon (roasted fingerling potatoes, wild mushroom-dill cream, shaved red onion and parsley salad), Buttermilk Fried Amish Chicken (with house-smoked tomato mac and cheese), and Wood Grilled Maine Twin Lobster Tails (with grilled asparagus, chive hollandaise).

Local farms tapped for beef, pork

8-twelve will feature American fare, including burgers, steak and other grilled food. The menu includes the "Brauny Burger" with smoked gouda, sweet onion bacon compote and worcestershire on a pretzel bun for $11; and "Rodgers' Prime Cuts" of prime bone-in ribeye, New York strip, filet mignon, skirt steak and filet medallions ranging from $25 up to $49.

Much of the meat is raised at Hidden Creek Farms, a New London farm operated by Surg CEO and co-owner Mike Polaski, other local farms and 8-twelve's herb garden.

Entrees range from $15 to $39, with sandwiches about $11 and soups, $6. Appetizers, from $7 to $14, include wood-grilled wings, tater tots, fried calamari, lobster crab cakes, a Wisconsin cheese board, and shrimp and grits.

Desserts include "Chocola8" — a fudge brownie with white and dark chocolate mousse, hazelnut crunch, chocolate ganache and chocolate crumble, topped with milk chocolate ice cream. Dutch apple and banana pie and smoked cherry crisp also are available for $7 to $8.

The restaurant is the second Braun-SURG Restaurant Group partnership and the first for Rodgers. Braun partnered with SURG on Graffito on Water Street in Milwaukee.

The Packers quarterback and Brewers left-fielder plan to make scheduled and unannounced visits on the Brookfield restaurant.
