Back to School: Sussex Outreach Seeks Shoes for Kids in Need
Its something we all take for granted: shoes. Sussex Outreach Services is holding a back-to-school fundraiser for local kids starting the school year.
Sussex Outreach Services is hosting a collection for something most of us take for granted: shoes.
With area students heading back to school in September, the local pantry is asking Sussex residents to consider making a $25 donation for their annual “New Shoes for Back to School” program. Village President Greg Goetz advised people to donate during the latest Village Board meeting, saying SOS and the community is in great need of the help.
“SOS did a collection to give school shoes to needy kids in previous years, and it was a complete success,” Goetz said. “I think there was about $2,500 that was raised to help buy food and shoes for needy kids. These children are definitely in need of shoes so they can attend school.”
And according to the outreach center’s Facebook page, they’re willing to take any help residents are able to offer.
“There is nothing like being able to go back to school with a great new pair of shoes, just like all the rest of the kids,” their status read. “Thank you for your support!”
The suggested deadline for donations is on Friday, so Sussex residents interested in donating for back-to-school shoes should drop off any contributions at SOS on Silver Spring Drive.

SOS appreciates the chance to promote this special fundraiser. We have already held sign ups for shoes, over the last month, for our pantry clients. We have oveer 130 kids in need of new shoes for back to school, which equals $3300. Working closely with the wonderful store manager of the Sussex Shopko, Pat Boetcher, we have found the best possible price on many great shoes. Shopping begins this Friday at the Sussex Shopko. Any donation is appreciated as we strive to meet our goal of $3300.
Thank you-
