Waukesha County Clerk's Office Has 'Smooth Day'
Waukesha County clerk's office makes it through Tuesday's primary election without any major snags.
For the first time in more than a year, the Waukesha County Clerk’s office has avoided becoming the biggest story on a major election night.
After overseeing a debacle of an election in the April 2012 and 2011 races, Clerk Kathy Nickolaus didn’t see any snafus, snags or delays in Tuesday’s recall election.
“In all, it's been a pretty smooth day,” she said.
Results in the recall elections came in a timely fashion Tuesday with results being tallied by 10:34 p.m.
Nickolaus first garnered national attention on the April 2011 elections when she forgot to press save on results a Wisconsin Supreme Court race, which ended up switching the results in one of the most contentious elections in state history.
Her office got more attention in the April 2012 race after results were released in an untimely fashion from her office and making observers and reporters add results manually from results taped onto the walls.
Nickolaus, who announced last month that she is not seeking re-election this year, was on hand for the election Tuesday and handed out results to observers periodically.
Shawn Lundie, chief of staff for Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas, said he was pleased with how the vote count process went during Tuesday's election.
“There was a lot of planning,” he said. “We really focused on getting back to the basics.”

Why was Nickolaus even "on hand" yesterday? She should have been banned from going anywhere near the elections.

I agree....keep Nickolaus away from anything election related. She somehow would have managed to find a few more votes for Walker.
