98th Assembly Seat Candidate Claims Discrimination in Lt. Governor's Office

Jeanne Tarantino, former aide to Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, said in a deposition that she was transfered from her state job because of her gender and age.

Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch’s 2010 campaign manager said she was discriminated against and transferred last month from her state job because of her age and gender, reported the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Jeanne Tarantino — who is a candidate for the 98th Assembly District special election — said this while being questioned in December as part of legal dispute with her ex-husband.

When asked why she was terminated from the lieutenant governor's office, Tarantino said it was because she was an older woman and they wanted a younger man in the position.

Kleefisch and Gov. Scott Walker’s office has denied the accusation from Tarantino that she was discriminated when she was transferred out of her $69,900 salary job in the lieutenant governor’s office, reported the Journal Sentinel.

Tarantino was transferred to the Department of Workforce Development as a project leader in the state. She later left that job to run for an Assembly District seat, which represents parts of Waukesha and Sussex, against four other candidates.

Kleefisch has endorsed Tarantino in her Assembly race.

In the deposition, Tarantino also said she felt the discrimination continued onto her second job, the Journal Sentinel reported. A spokesperson for Walker’s office said Kleefisch’s office handles their own staffing.

When asked why she did not file a discrimination complaint after being transferred, the Journal Sentinel reported that Tarantino said in the deposition, "Because I'll never work in Wisconsin again."

Dan Bice posted on his on-line column that I am NOT the source of this leak as was claimed by many Tarantino supporters. Some claim that I am Adam Neylon's campaign mgr. I am not and never was. It seems like dishonesty runs up and down this Tarantino campaign.
Since I live in the district, my neighbors and I want a representative that can be trusted. Looks like only 4 of the 5 candidates fit the bill.

Keith, if you are not the source of a leak, do you know who was?
Could it be a boss for one of the candidates?
It is interesting to note that on Monday November 19th, 2012 you posted on PATCH your support for Adam Neylon. That was before all of the candidates declared that they were going to run. Jeanne Tarantinno did not declare until the Wednesday after that and Ed Baumann declared even later.

Keith,
I'm looking underneath the circumstances of the story.

Here are the words from someone posting as Dan Bice: "Just because someone says he/she is a source doesn't make it so. I know exactly who gave me the deposition and other documents. It was not Keith Best.."

I'm wondering what sort of character the individual has who is responsible for handing Dan Bice the deposition of a current divorce proceeding and other documents in an attempt to intentionally ruin and destroy them. I find this particular sort of mudslinging irreprehensible.

Have you used an avitar on Bice's blog to make comments about this story, Keith?

The irony of all this is that these are the exact tactics the other party gets accused of. Nobody from that party is running for the 98th.

@Chris B,
No I don't know the source of the leak. The first I heard about this was from the Bice column.
That's when I became concerned that someone lied under oath, more than once, accusing my Governor whom I worked so hard for,and the Lt. Gov of discrimination. She wanted to be my representative. I decided to speak out for myself and my neighbors. It's true I support Adam Neylon, that's no secret. But at this point, I would be happy to have anyone besides Tarantino.

Keith saying someone lied under oath is a strong accusation. I don't think its appropriate for the Communications person for the Republican party of Waukesha County to make such statements. Have you read this transcript?

The real issue is why someone would release this info? This is nothing short of
negative politiciking possibly even Republican on Republican. That negative politicking will do nothing but give the Republican Party a bad name. The focus should be on the issues,

Do you condone the use of a divorce transcript and dragging a Republican candidate through the mud in front of her school aged children by other Republicans? It's a Yes or No.

FYI, according to the GAB website no Democrat submitted the required signatures to appear on the ballot.

The paper "forgot" to mention that Jeanne Tarantino's OWN attorney stated that there is NO evidence to support her claim of discrimination.
According to Bice "Even Tarantino's lawyer dismissed her client's sworn statements."

None----even Jeanne Tarantino's own team understands this is bogus and aimed (in a convoluted way) to harm her EX not get Kleefisch.

Mr Lundt, I agree this is bogus.
Who would go to the courthouse to get someone's Divorce transcription and take it to the press? Politics at its finest!
The Republican Party doesn't have to worry about other parties making them look bad, they are doing it to themselves.
This is just a attempt by someone or some group to discredit the front running candidate who is the best for the job.
I live in the 98th district and I SUPPORT JEANNE TARANTINO

Who would go to the courthouse looking for a story? Try a liberal gossip columnist writing a story. Why are you so convinced this is some big conspiracy? What evidence do you have? Interesting how Ms. Tarantino's supporters are always trying to place blame on someone else, despite everything in that story coming directly from her own sworn testimony.

One only needs to remember back to 2010 and see how the GOP treated Kleefisch when she was running for office (Tarantino was her manager). These two ladies are not going to put up with the men's shenanigans! Yeah, I suppose they are still unhappy that they didn't get their golden boy Bret Davis elected. Time for payback!

The only thing I gathered from the above story is that Jeanne Tarantino can't be trusted. I live in the 98th Assembly District and I SUPPORT ADAM NEYLON. I've known him since our freshman year at Carroll together ten years ago, and have nothing but great things to say. He's honest, hardworking, and has integrity. He started his own business at 19 years old, is active in the community, and worked for Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner for 3 years. He's someone you can trust for the 98th District.

February 19th is the actual election since Democrat Prudent dropped out.
Take a listen to Belling's podcast for today. He pretty much endorsed a candidate.

And I honestly have no idea who you're referring to "hates the women vote" but I suspect that person must have a difficult time getting elected.

How incredibly ironic that Belling set this whole thing up over the past few days only to finally announce today that ironically, there is someone else running, wait for it, wait for it.... Adam Neylon, who works for Misogynist in Chief, Bill Kramer, who just happens to be friends with Jeanne's ex. You can't make this stuff up people!

No mention of any other candidate whatsoever! Phony baloney. Who didn't see that coming? Belling went on and on about being mystified that Kleefisch is STILL supporting Tarantino. Keep in mind, Tarantino never once said Kleefisch fired her and by all accounts, Kleefisch didn't want her to go. But Belling wants us to believe that Kleefisch hated Tarantino so much that she went right out and endorsed her AND then went out and campaigned for her AND she refuses to say Tarantino is a liar.

And Keith, didn't RPW order you to shut up already? You ARE running for a Waukesha County GOP seat, right? Jeanne isn't the unstable one. You and your boy toy candidate who doesn't know jack about the issues are.

Did you personally read the documents? Oh, I guess since you weren't the leak, you must not have. Knowing that, then you don't know anything other than what your buddy Belling has been saying. That is one sick puppy! Please point specifically to where Tarantino accused KLEEFISCH of firing her. She didn't. Yes, know know what I am implying. Funny how Kleefisch STILL endorses her. That must really peeve you to no end.

Chris, that is exactly what it is. Adam can't run on the issues or experience or endorsements, so this is all they can come up with. Jeanne has the experience, the credentials, the endorsements and she has and continues to raise money. More now than before this started. While these silly little boys spend their days and nights on Facebook lying about her, she is out going door to door and staying on task. The only thing the Neylon team has accomplished is to make Walker and Kramer look bad, not Jeanne or Kleefisch. Losers.

Hey "ImConservative", who needs to make Ms. Tarantino look bad when they have you helping out? Adam spends his days and nights running a small business. And why do you keep ripping him for being young? He's 28 years old. That's the same age US Rep Paul Ryan was elected to Congress, and that worked out pretty well. In fact, he's older than when Governor Scott Walker was first elected to the State Assembly. Besides, state government could use a fresh perspective. We need more young conservatives to get involved without bullies like you attacking them for their age. You need to take a few deep breaths, and get a grip.

No, I'm accusing you of attempting to smear Adam Neylon, who is honest, hardworking, and a very solid conservative candidate trying his best to represent the people of the 98th Assembly District, because he truly cares about his community. I'm not sure what you mean by "I see Jeanne everywhere but not him." I was at the county party branch club meeting last Thursday and Adam was the only candidate to attend. I was also at the RPW's regional Grand Opening ceremony this Saturday and saw Adam, but not Jeanne. And why doesn't he come here and speak for himself? Well, I assume for the same reason Ms. Tarantino doesn't come on here and speak for herself: they're running for office and have better things to do with their time than troll message boards... like us ;)

@JD - You said, " I was at the county party branch club meeting last Thursday and Adam was the only candidate to attend."
Was that on Thursday the 24th? Hopefully not in the evening.
I invited all the 98th Assembly candidates to the Thermal Energy Lab Inauguration at Saratoga STEM. Only 2 candidates had enough interest in public education and to RSVP and both said they would attend, Adam and Jeanne. Adam sent regrets hours before the event.
Filling the skills gap should be the #1 issue with the candidates. STEM is a very important tool toward accomplishing that goal. With roughly 50% of the state budget devoted to public education I expected every candidate to attend. Only Jeanne did.
Here's a partial list of the attendees who get it.
Tony Evers, State Superintendent DPI
Mike Thompson, Deputy State Superintendent DPI
Senator Leah Vukmir
Senator Paul Farrow
Representative Bill Kramer
Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas
Mayor Jeff Scrima
98th Assembly Candidate Jeanne Tarantino
The Waukesha Board of Education (represented by the 98th)
The STEM Governance Board
School District Administration
School District Staff
Students of STEM and the WSD
Community members and parents
Presidents and CEO's of area manufacturing companies
Wisconsin manufacturers of products used in the lab who set up display booths

Agreed. It seems like a waste of precious campaign time to go politicking with politicians who can't even vote for you. Who is on Adam's campaign team? I know who backs Jeanne and it is a pretty impressive list. As far as this Patch story and sensationalistic headlines, I find them to be incorrect. Once again, she did not make any formal accusation or public accusation. She was being interrogated on the subject and she said she FELT LIKE it was because they wanted a younger white male in the position. Does anyone know Casey Himebauch, her replacement? Enter younger white male, former staffer to Walker and general GOP do-gooder. He gets around. I am not saying this is bad by any means, I am just saying that this crap of everyone saying she is a liar and saying that she claimed discrimination is INCORRECT. As far as Belling goes, he is a joke and his motives are very clear now. He is an Adam supporter. Too bad he didn't say so last week when he first regurgitated Bice's story, it would have saved me hours of listening to his Barbara Walters-esque voice.
